Northwestel Deploys Juniper Networks Routing Platforms to Deliver Services to Canadian Businesses and Consumers

Incumbent Service Provider Assures End-to End Network Performance and Reliability with J- and M-series Routers

SUNNYVALE, Calif., August 9, 2005 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) today announced that Northwestel, a subsidiary of Bell Canada, has deployed Juniper Networks J- and M-series routing platforms at the customer premise, edge and core of its network to deliver a secure and assured services experience. Northwestel selected the Juniper Networks routing solution for its proven performance and reliability and for its ability to support a wide range of voice, data, VPN and IP/MPLS services using a single software release end-to-end across the network.

Northwestel will be deploying fully redundant Juniper Networks M-series in all of its major points of presence for both core and edge routing. Delivering wide support for IP/VPN services, and line rate performance even with elaborate policy filters, the M-series will enable Northwestel to deliver consistently performing IP services throughout its nearly four million square kilometer service area. The J-series Services Router will be used as a customer premise router to support Nortwestel's business solutions, providing speed, reliability and enhanced security options.

The J- and the M-series utilize the same proven JUNOS modular operating system, enabling Northwestel to reduce operating expenses. By running multiple functions in parallel on assigned processing resources, JUNOS software delivers high stability with the flexibility to enable advanced routing, QoS, security, and management policies with predictable performance.

"The proven reliability and performance of Juniper Networks routers enables us to support a wider range of IP services, while improving the overall reliability of our network," said Paul Flaherty, President and CEO of Northwestel. "The ability to run one common software release across all our core routers will simplify operations and new products introduction. This initiative complements our focus on new network services and growth."

Juniper Networks M-series multiservice edge routing portfolio uniquely combines best-in-class IP/MPLS capabilities with unmatched reliability, performance, and service flexibility. The M-series enables providers to consolidate multiple networks onto a single IP/MPLS infrastructure, while simultaneously generating new revenues with leading-edge services.

The J-series delivers the advanced JUNOS modular operating system in a hardware platform that is ideal for customer premises equipment and managed service offerings. The J-series routers provide enterprises, government organizations, and research and education groups with a forward-looking platform to build converged IP and IP/MPLS infrastructures.

"Northwestel's coverage area serves vast amounts of territory, much of it very remote, so for them reducing costs, simplifying the network, and operating reliably are perhaps even more critical than usual," said Tim Lambie, vice president, Americas International, Juniper Networks. "Together, our J- and M-series provided a unified, reliable solution that enabled Northwestel to reduce their costs, while providing secure and assured networking services to their business and residential customers."
