Juniper Networks Continues SSL VPN Leadership with New Hardware Platforms

New SSL VPNs Support Enterprise Infranet by Providing Delivery Control with High Performance and Reliability

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Aug 8, 2005 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today extended support for its Enterprise Infranet architecture with the introduction of four new Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Virtual Private Network (VPN) hardware platforms. The new Secure Access (SA) 700, 2000, 4000 and 6000 appliances provide enterprises with enhanced delivery control through best-in-class performance, scalability and redundancy. Each new hardware platform is provisioned to meet differing customer needs and price points while lowering the total cost of operations for secure remote, extranet and intranet access.

Market research firm IDC, in a bulletin entitled: "Worldwide SSL VPN Appliance 2005-2009 Forecast and 2004 Vendor Shares: Delivery Secure Application Access," dated March 2005, reported that Juniper Networks was the leading vendor in that market with nearly a third of the market share. Additionally, Juniper Networks achieved a 195 percent growth with its SSL VPN revenue in 2004 compared with 2003.

"Juniper Networks continues its strong leadership of the SSL VPN market," said Charles Kolodgy, research director, security products at IDC. "With its new hardware platforms, Juniper continues to deliver enterprise customers greater performance for secure, remote connectivity."

The new Secure Access 700, 2000, 4000 and 6000 appliances are the latest additions to the Juniper Networks Secure Access product family. Using Juniper Networks Instant Virtual Extranet (IVE) software, the appliances utilize the SSL security protocol that is available in all standard Web browsers, enabling enterprises to provide remote access to mobile employees, contractors, partners and customers without requiring an installed client. The appliances also allow enterprises to secure extranet or intranet access without a DMZ build-out, server hardening or Web agent deployments.

Industry Leading SSL VPN Performance and Reliability

The SA 6000 was designed for the most complex and demanding secure enterprise and service provider environments, and features the industry's most advanced high availability and flexibility options. The scalable platform includes dual redundant hot-swappable hard disks with real-time data mirroring for optimized uptime and operational convenience. The SA 6000 also includes the addition of GBIC-based multiple Ethernet ports for increased flexibility in creating separate physical networks in the DMZ, the intranet, and for enabling fully redundant and meshed configuration of SSL VPN appliances with multiple load balancers. The SA 6000 also incorporates the state-of-the-art SSL acceleration chipset with RC4, 3DES and AES encryption, and contains built-in compression capabilities for all traffic.

The SA 4000 offers enterprise-class secure access with a license-based SSL acceleration chipset, while the SA 2000 delivers a cost-effective solution for mid-sized enterprise deployments. The SA 700 is a new small-to-medium enterprise (SME) platform with application-layer functionality that is specifically design to address the needs of SMEs.

"Juniper Networks is once again extending its market leadership with new SSL VPN appliances – a key component to the Enterprise Infranet architecture," said Vivian Ganitsky, director of product management for the Juniper Networks Secure Access appliances. "The Secure Access SSL VPN appliances give enterprises and service providers enhanced delivery control, making them the ideal solution for any size organization looking to secure and assure connectivity among remote employees, partners or customers."

The Juniper Networks Secure Access appliances, which have earned the most awards and industry accolades in the SSL VPN market since its first products shipped in 2001, represent the market's leading SSL VPN product line. Enterprises and service providers worldwide have selected the Juniper Networks SSL VPN to help them increase efficiency and productivity. Juniper Networks also continues to be the only SSL VPN provider to have completed multiple, independent security audits – supporting its goal to deliver secure and assured networking solutions. The SSL VPN appliances have passed rigorous security audits by Information Security Partners, LLC (iSEC Partners) and Cybertrust, Inc.

Pricing and Availability

The Juniper Networks Secure Access 700, 2000, 4000 and 6000 appliances are available today for ordering through Juniper Networks and its global network of reseller partners. U.S. pricing for the new appliances starts at $2,495 for the SA 700 with 10 concurrent users, $6,995 for the SA 2000 with 25 concurrent users, $15,995 for the SA 4000 with 50 concurrent users, and $33,995 for the SA 6000 with 100 concurrent users.
