Juniper Networks Announces Federal Government IPv6 IQ Study Results

Survey Reveals IPv6 Education and Awareness Opportunity for Government IT Decision Makers

SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 18, 2005 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) today announced the results of its Federal IPv6 IQ Study. The study of Information Technology (IT) decision makers in both the federal government and the private sector reveals a significant education opportunity on the benefits of migrating to the next-generation IP, version 6 (IPv6).

While more than 80 percent of respondents require improved Internet quality of service, security, and network management - all key benefits of IPv6 - less than seven percent consider IPv6 very important to achieving their IT goals. While the study shows that respondents place a high priority on the IT issues IPv6 will help address, it reports low levels of interest in migrating to IPv6 with few respondents having current plans for IPv6 migration. Further, the study reports that the federal government trails the private sector in IPv6 awareness, transition planning, knowledge of regulatory requirements and deadlines for transition, as well as understanding of how IPv6 will help meet IT goals.

"The federal government and the vendor community need to work together to educate IT decision makers on the benefits of migrating to IPv6," said Thomas Kreidler, vice president of Juniper Federal Systems at Juniper Networks. "As the leading provider of end-to-end IPv6-enabled solutions, Juniper Networks is committed to working with the federal government to help ensure a smooth transition to this next generation protocol with high levels of network assurance and intelligence."

"The Department of Defense is focused on accelerating IPv6 transition as a critical infrastructure building block in enabling net-centric defense transformation," said Dr. Charles Lynch, technical director, Department of Defense IPv6 Transition Office, Defense Information Systems Agency. "Industry has a critical role to play in delivering IPv6 solutions and in partnering with government to increase awareness of the value of the transition to next-generation Internet technologies. This Juniper Networks study is a wake up call for the federal government. It provides critical insight in to the current state of IPv6 knowledge and migration - clearly agencies need to redouble their efforts in this area and we have significant work ahead of us."

The Juniper Networks Federal IPv6 IQ Study was based on a survey of 349 federal government and industry IT decision makers. The sample composition is 63 percent federal government GS 12-15 personnel, eight percent federal government Senior Executive Service (SES) personnel, and 29 percent private industry personnel.
