Juniper Networks Delivers TX Matrix Platform

Proven Technology, Optimal Scale, Full Feature Set Advances Industry-Leading Core Routing Platform to Multi-Terabit Capacity

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Dec. 3, 2004 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced the immediate availability of the TX Matrix platform, extending the company's leadership in building the world's largest core networks. With over 75 customer deployments, the T-series has rapidly become the core platform of choice for service providers worldwide.

As the central routing and switching element of a multi-chassis design, the TX Matrix brings together multiple T640 platforms to form a core solution capable of delivering over three billion packets-per-second throughput. The TX Matrix utilizes the world's premier routing system software, JUNOS, to deliver a full set of features and services today.

"The Juniper Networks T640 and JUNOS software, which have been deployed in our multi-vendor IP core network for over a year, have proven to be a highly reliable platform. In our IP platform we are routing more than 35 petabytes of data per month," said Wolfgang Schmitz, senior executive vice president, Technology Engineering at T-Com, the fixed-line division of Deutsche Telekom. "We've successfully tested the TX Matrix in beta test version with its full feature set and believe that the availability is well timed to enable us to optimally scale our network as required."

Deployed for over six years in over 600 production networks worldwide, JUNOS software is feature rich, highly stable and resilient, and enables service providers to leverage a single software release in building the most operationally efficient networks. The TX Matrix platform combines a fully redundant architecture and no single point of failure with the robust high availability features of JUNOS software, such as Graceful Routing Engine Switchover (GRES), In-service Software Upgrades (ISSU) and Bi-directional Forwarding Detection (BFD).

With solutions that are designed for high reliability and availability, service providers can deliver a secure and assured experience to their customers, supporting business critical applications as a foundation for Infranets.

"The powerful combination of the T-series, JUNOS software and TX Matrix platform expedites service providers' migration to Infranets, a singular, highly available IP/MPLS network capable of delivering an assured user experience," said Christine Heckart, vice president of marketing, Juniper Networks. "We've worked closely with our customers to identify the critical elements for scaling their core networks, and we've fulfilled their requirements with the TX Matrix platform as promised."

Designed to deliver multi-terabit scale in the smallest available footprint, the TX Matrix platform protects customers' investments in T640 platforms and lowers total cost of ownership. The TX Matrix platform combines high density, rack-optimized platforms with modular, feature-rich software and the ability to interconnect increasing numbers of chassis as a single routing entity, ensuring the greatest amount of capacity in a design that best utilizes the customer's facility. In addition, the T640 routers can be connected to the TX Matrix platform at distances up to 100 meters apart, allowing for both local and distributed deployments.

"KT has over six million high-speed Internet subscribers with enormous data traffic growth and our network relies on state-of-the-art networking equipment that yields uncompromising performance with scalability," said KS Park, director of Network Operation, KT Corporation. "KT has been deploying T-series routing platforms for the last three years to address capacity issues. We have a multitude of T640 platforms installed in our Centre Node and we are glad to see Juniper Networks now offering a seamless, multi-terabit upgrade path with proven technology and investment protection."

Tom Nolle, president and CEO of CIMI Corporation said, "The introduction of a new product shouldn't require the building of a new network. With the TX Matrix, Juniper Networks is delivering a solution that efficiently scales the network core with all the advantages of the JUNOS modular operating system. It is far and away the best approach to multi-chassis that any vendor has to offer today."
