Legal Services for New York City Implements SSL VPN Remote Access Security Solution from Juniper Networks
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 29, 2004 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that Legal Services for New York City, the largest provider of civil legal services to low-income clients in the nation, has implemented Juniper Networks' Secure Sockets Layer Virtual Private Network (SSL VPN) solution to enable 16 non-profit law offices to securely exchange confidential client data via a secure remote access solution.
Legal Services for New York City provides services through a network of offices located in low-income communities and transportation hubs in New York City's five boroughs. These offices and outreach centers are the backbone of the legal services delivery system in New York City and serve more than 70,000 clients each year.
"Juniper Networks' Secure Access SSL VPN solution allows us to have one centralized repository for data and allows only authorized users to see content," said John Greiner, CTO at Legal Services for New York City. "Our lawyers are very happy with the solution as it allows them to be more effective. Instead of having to fax or email documents to other offices, they now all have access to a secured centralized data repository and client information is kept confidential."
Juniper Networks' Secure Access SSL VPN products are hardened network appliances that leverage the benefits of secure access over the Internet, but in a more secure, less complex and lower-cost manner. The SSL VPNs leverage the SSL technology found in Web browsers, and require no client device software installations or maintenance. The products offer broad access options, high performance scalability and access granularity tailored for sophisticated intranet and extranet environments. Juniper Networks SSL VPNs leverage the robust security design of the company's Instant Virtual Extranet (IVE) platform, which includes enterprise strength authentication, authorization and auditing (AAA); Juniper Endpoint Defense Initiative APIs that ensure integration with best-of-breed endpoint security products; and a core security architecture that has been audited by leading third-party security experts, such as TruSecure Corporation and Cryptography Research, Inc., and has been certified by ICSA Labs.
A few years ago Legal Services for New York City replaced its Cisco firewall with the Juniper Networks NetScreen-5GT. NetScreen-5GTs, providing up to 75 Mbps firewall and up to 20 Mbps of 3DES VPN performance along with antivirus and Deep Inspection firewall functionality, are located at 16 of the remote offices to provide secure firewall protection of data.
Legal Services for New York City also deployed NetScreen-50s, offering up to 170 Mbps of firewall and 50 Mbps of 3DES or AES VPN performance. These devices are located in High Availability (HA) mode at corporate headquarters and one is located at the Harlem office to protect critical client data.
