HealthBridge Implements SSL VPN Remote Access Security Solution from Juniper Networks

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 10, 2004 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that HealthBridge, an Internet service provider (ISP) and collaborative healthcare network serving the greater Cincinnati healthcare in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, has deployed its Secure Sockets Layer Virtual Private Network (SSL VPN) solution to enable secure access to 28 different clinical applications and deliver more than 940,000 clinical results per month to 2,900 physicians.

"The NetScreen SSL VPN is the first technology that we have found that provides the level of remote access security necessary for the sensitive nature of healthcare data, as well as providing the flexibility and ease of administration necessary for managing a diverse network," said Rodney Cain, CTO at HealthBridge.

HealthBridge serves approximately 7,000 physicians and provides state-of-the-art technologies and secure IT services to the 18 area hospitals, as well as 30 clinical care systems. HealthBridge.org, the member hospitals' Web portal, is designed to provide remote access to the clinical care systems, which include Hospital Information Systems (HIS) lab systems, scheduling applications, fetal heart monitors, hospital-based Electronic Medical Records (EMRs), electronic chart completion and radiology images.

HealthBridge's SSL VPN deployment replaces its previous solution - a Cisco VPN that required VPN client software loaded on users' PCs. Reaching and installing on the physician's personal computers was intrusive and training them to use and accept the Cisco VPN process was another challenge.

After a thorough evaluation of VPN technology, HealthBridge selected the Juniper Networks NetScreen Secure Access 3000 SSL VPN. The Secure Access products are hardened network appliances that leverage the benefits of secure access over the Internet, but in a more secure, less complex and lower-cost manner. The Juniper Networks SSL VPN leverages the SSL technology found in Web browsers, and requires no client device software installations or maintenance. The products offer broad access options, high performance scalability, and access granularity tailored for sophisticated intranet and extranet environments. Juniper Networks SSL VPNs leverage the robust security design of the company's Instant Virtual Extranet (IVE) platform, which includes enterprise strength authentication, authorization and auditing (AAA); Juniper Endpoint Defense Initiative APIs that ensure integration with best-of-breed endpoint security products; and a core security architecture that has been audited by leading third-party security experts, such as TruSecure Corporation and Cryptography Research, Inc., and has been certified by ICSA Labs.
