T-Com Reaches Over 35 Petabytes of IP Traffic per Month with Support from Juniper Networks T640 Routing Platforms
Based on Projected Monthly Traffic Run Rate Over a One-Year Period, T-Com's IP Network on Track to Handle More Data than all the Printed Material in the World
SUNNYVALE, Calif., August 31, 2004 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that T-Com, the fixed-line division of Deutsche Telekom, is routing more than 35 petabytes of data per month across its German IP network. This milestone was achieved with the support of Juniper Networks T640 routing platforms that were deployed during 2003. A petabyte is equivalent to approximately one thousand million million bytes. To put this achievement in perspective, all of the printed material in the world amounts to 200 petabytes. The landmark was achieved in less than a year since the T640 platforms were deployed in T-Com's production network. In the last two years T-Com has experienced massive traffic growth driven by strong demand for its DSL broadband services. This growth has contributed significantly to the overall traffic mix. The achievement is all the more remarkable as the T640-based Point of Presence (PoP) has proven to be extremely stable and has been running without outages since the deployment was completed.
