Juniper Networks Named VPN Market Leader by Independent Research Firm

Report Recognizes Company's 'Best Overall SSL VPN Products and Largest SSL VPN Market Share'; A Dominant IPSec VPN Provider

SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 13, 2004 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that Forrester Research has named Juniper Networks the leading vendor in the rapidly growing Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Virtual Private Network (VPN) market and a leader in the IPSec VPN market, in the Forrester Market Overview report titled "SSL is the Future of Remote Access VPNs," published June 22, 2004. Juniper Networks was evaluated among 17 VPN companies.

In this evaluation of the SSL VPN and IPSec remote access markets, Forrester provides a market overview of enterprise remote access practices, remote user profiles, and tiering of vendors providing remote access appliances. Juniper Networks was named as the leader of the SSL VPN market based on its "best overall SSL VPN products and largest market share," according to the report, prepared by Forrester Research Analyst Robert Whiteley. Juniper Networks was also cited as one of the dominant IPSec remote access providers based on its integration of advanced security functionality.

In addition, the report stated: "Juniper jumped into the No. 1 position by grabbing the market share leader, NetScreen. The Secure Access series offers the most comprehensive set of product features and functions including application support, endpoint control, and a slick management GUI. Juniper's enterprise SSL VPN clients include the highest Fortune 1,000 penetration and leading verticals like financial services and healthcare."
