Stanford University School of Education Uses Juniper Networks Security Solutions

SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 7, 2004 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that Stanford University has deployed Juniper Networks security products to provide network firewall protection for the School of Education.

As an educational institution, Stanford operates its network like many universities providing an "open community" to enable easy information access and exchange. However, with the growing number and complexity of internal and external attacks, Stanford realized the importance of protecting critical resources, such as student and faculty data, while still allowing access to appropriate resources. To address this need while preserving network reliability and performance, Stanford's School of Education worked with systems integrator, Corsa Networks and is using Juniper Networks NetScreen integrated firewall and virtual private network (VPN) systems.

"Stanford needed a firewall solution with security functionality, scalability, throughput and redundancy," said Dr. Paul Kim, chief technology officer at Stanford University School of Education. "We wanted to share best practices with other Stanford University schools who are also using Juniper Networks security products."

The Stanford School of Education deployed in High Availability (HA) mode two Juniper Networks NetScreen-500 systems, which provide integrated firewall and VPN functionality with up to 700 Mbps firewall performance and up to 250 Mbps of 3DES IPSec VPN performance. The Juniper Networks NetScreen-500 devices are located at the School of Education's core network to protect course management systems that include e-mail, grades, curriculum and faculty data.
