Leading Korean Service Provider Chooses Juniper Networks for BORANet IP Backbone Expansion

T640 To Underpin Major Capacity Upgrade

SUNNYVALE, Calif., January 8, 2004—Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that leading Korean service provider, Dacom Corporation, has selected the T-series routing platform for a major expansion of its nationwide BORANet IP backbone network.

Dacom will deploy the T640 routing node in the core BORANet network to boost capacity between nodes and to ensure network reliability. The T640 was chosen for its stability, high port density, 640Gb capacity and its support for rich, MPLS-based services.

"The T640 will enable us to upgrade the links between our major network nodes from OC-48 to high-capacity 10Gb trunks," said Byungchang Choi, Director, Internet Planning Team for Dacom. "We will leverage the T-series to provide simplified network management, improved reliability and the scalability to meet the dramatic growth we project in the next two to four years."

Dacom, which provides Internet leased-line and advanced application services to corporate customers through BORANet, has relied on Juniper Networks M-series routing platforms in its core network for the last four years. The existing M-series platforms will be re-used in other nodes in the BORANet infrastructure, a process that is simplified by the JUNOS operating system, which is common to all M- and T-series platforms.

"Similar to other service providers in the region, Dacom is investing in its infrastructure to meet projected growth in IP traffic," said Adam Judd, vice president, Asia Pacific for Juniper Networks. "At the same time, it is planning for advanced, new MPLS-based services, including multimedia communications offerings. Dacom's requirements were for unsurpassed capacity and the ability to support new applications and, on both counts, the T640 was its ideal solution."
