Juniper Networks Wins IP Routing for GIG-BE, Global Information Grid-Bandwidth Expansion

Core and Edge High Performance IP Routing Platforms Selected to Transform Military's Worldwide Network

SUNNYVALE, Calif., December 30, 2003—Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that it has been awarded a multi-year contract by Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) for all edge and core IP/MPLS routers for the Defense Information Systems Agency's (DISA) Global Information Grid - Bandwidth Expansion (GIG-BE) Program. SAIC is DISA's prime contractor for the GIG-BE Program.

"We are extremely proud to have been selected for this global initiative and fully support DISA's vision for GIG-BE to make a transformational leap forward to create a secure, reliable enterprise IP infrastructure," said Scott Kriens, chairman and CEO of Juniper Networks. "The importance and impact of this project cannot be overstated, and we undertake this assignment with full knowledge and company-wide commitment to the goals of the government and recognize the significance of the faith that has been placed with Juniper Networks."

GIG-BE, a worldwide switched optical network with 10-Gbps OC-192 or faster connections, initially will serve Defense Department users at 100 sites around the globe. Juniper Networks expects to deploy its M- and T- series routing platforms in early 2004. These products seamlessly integrate the capabilities of high performance routers, firewalls, Ethernet and Frame/ATM switches, VPN appliances, packet shapers, and traffic monitoring and analysis devices for higher performing and more easily managed networks.

"We are pleased to be the only vendor that SAIC chose for its intensive technical and business evaluation and we are confident that the M- and T-series will deliver the high performance and features required in the architecture of GIG-BE," stated Dubhe Beinhorn, vice president, Juniper Networks Juniper Federal Systems. "Our products offer superior alternatives that meet the security, performance, reliability and scalability requirements of this unique customer."
