KT Kornet Transforms Network with Routing Platforms from Juniper Networks

Korea's Largest Internet Service Provider Expands T-series Backbone Deployment to Support Increased Network Traffic

SUNNYVALE, Calif., December 23, 2003—Juniper Networks Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that South Korea's largest Internet service provider, KT Kornet, has again selected the T-series routing platform to transform its business of networking.

The T640 Routing Node was selected for KT Kornet's backbone network upgrade to accommodate rapid growth in network traffic as Korean consumers and corporations embrace digital technologies. The T640 meets KT Kornet's requirements today with the ability to scale in the future. This new deployment follows previous deployments of the T640 in initial phases of KT Kornet's backbone network deployment.

"We chose the Juniper Networks T-series routing platform because it can comfortably accommodate traffic growth across our Internet backbone network, which has been in the order of 20 per cent a year," said Jay Lee, Senior Manager, Network Planning Group of KT.

"Our projections are that commercial and consumer IP services such as ADSL, VDSL and access services based on metro switches will grow to 350 Gbps by the end of 2004. The T640 can accommodate adding new services while also enhancing the performance and expanding the capacity of our backbone network. KT Kornet has been using the T-series in the core backbone network since October 2002 and its stability and feature set have been tested and proven time and time again."

With the projected traffic growth, KT Kornet made scalability and longevity a mandatory requirement. The T640's Matrix Technology configuration, which will enable multiple T640 platforms to interconnect and operate as a single router while preserving valuable revenue-generating ports, ensures the future-proofing of the backbone. The Matrix Technology will ultimately transform multiple individual T640 Routing Nodes into an efficient "Routing Matrix" that delivers ten or more terabits of throughput.
