Citylink Transforms Nationwide Network in Sweden with Deployment of Juniper Networks Routing Platforms
SUNNYVALE, Calif., November 19, 2003—Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that Citylink, one of the largest alternative carriers in Sweden, has deployed Juniper Networks Infranet-ready M-series routing platforms to improve reliability and availability in its nationwide network. The new deployment will enable Citylink to lower operational costs and minimize time to roll out new services.
Citylink has deployed Juniper Networks M20 routing platforms in eight locations throughout Sweden, including Goteborg and Stockholm. With the new deployment Citylink has expanded its data service to offer various flavors of VPNs, which will include multilink point-to-point protocol (MLPPP) and Virtual Private LAN Services (VPLS) in the near future.
"Since the deployment of the Juniper Networks M20 routing platforms we have been able to minimise our operational costs. The platforms have proven to be very stable resulting in lower maintenance costs. In addition the platforms have allowed us to minimise the time to deploy new services for our customers," said Mikael Akesson, chief operating officer at Citylink.
In addition to data, Citylink provides other services such as fixed telephony and mobile telephony. Leading the industry towards truly converged networks, Citylink has designed its network in such a way that the traffic generated by these additional services is also transported across the M20 based backbone.
One of Citylink's key reasons for deciding to switch to Juniper Networks was the high reliability and availability of the platforms. After experiencing problems with equipment from other vendors Citylink realized a change was necessary in order to offer the best possible service to its customers.
Citylink is an alternative operator in Sweden, focusing on large and midsized corporates, it has deployed one of the largest national networks in Sweden and is backed by a group of Swedish utility companies and a venture capital company. Its customers include communication intensive corporations, service providers and other carriers.
