Juniper Networks and Siemens to Build Vietnam's First DSL Broadband Network

Proven Revenue-Generation Strategies Seal Deal with Vietnam Post and Telecommunications

SUNNYVALE, CA - July 7, 2003—Juniper Networks Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced it has been selected by the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Corporation (VNPT) to provide infrastructure solutions that will help build the country's first broadband xDSL network.

The project, deployed with integration partner Siemens as prime contractor, will transform the speed and reliability of Internet access in Vietnam. It will also provide VNPT, the state-owned incumbent telecommunications operator, with the technology to fully optimize its existing network, develop and market new high-speed broadband services and, most importantly, generate revenue.

"This project with VNPT represents the largest Juniper Networks deployment in Vietnam. It is also a testimony to the power and potential of our BRAS solutions which offer the performance, reliability and the widest possible scope for revenue generation in the industry," said Adam Judd, vice president, Juniper Networks, Asia Pacific. "It's a powerful combination that is proving very persuasive to carriers such as VNPT which are looking for ways to leverage existing network infrastructure to create new service business models."

"Juniper Networks and Siemens have provided VNPT with a best-of-breed solution that will form the foundation for a successful and profitable broadband business," said Judd.

The project involves the deployment of Juniper Networks E-series edge routing platform designed to address service provider challenges at the edge of the network, and the Juniper Networks SDX service deployment system to enable VNPT to quickly roll out new, premium services and begin generating revenue. The E-series is the ideal platform for service providers like VNPT, which need to meet large-scale demands for IP access. The carrier will also make use of Juniper Networks NMC-RX application to manage all of the E-series routers, line modules and ports from a central location.

The E-series offers unparalleled port density to conserve scarce point-of-presence (POP) space and power as well as sustained wire-speed routing under the most demanding traffic patterns.

Juniper Networks E-series also provides exceptional reliability and availability to meet the requirements for strict service level agreements. It can also support multiple IP service classes to provide the foundation for virtual private networks (VPNs) and the deployment of premium services such as fast Internet access and video on demand.

The SDX is designed to enable service providers to rapidly create and deploy a raft of new revenue-generating services, individualise and enhance their subscribers' experience, and at the same time retain full control of their underlying networks. The SDX-300 enables service delivery to hundreds of thousands of subscribers over a variety of broadband access technologies - including DSL.

Working with the E-series, the SDX-300 will enable VNPT to activate service offerings on an as-needed basis, while automatically provisioning the network to deliver those services, account for service usage on an individual subscriber basis and charge accordingly.
