Siemens Supplies Brasil Telecom with E-series Platforms from Juniper Networks

E-series Delivers High-speed Access and Next-Generation Broadband Services For Brasil Telecom

SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 2, 2003—Siemens and Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that Brasil Telecom has deployed the E-series platform for its Vetor Project throughout Brazil. Siemens Fixed Telephony Division is the consultant and system integrator for the Juniper Networks E-series platforms deployed in the Brasil Telecom network.

The Juniper Networks E-series is a reliable and integrated platform that combines rich subscriber management capabilities with provider-class edge routing and the ability to cost-effectively scale services with subscriber growth. Its flexible ASIC-based architecture will enable Brasil Telecom to deliver high-speed access and next-generation broadband services applications, such as IP VPNs, across its extensive Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) network.

According to Waldir Morgado, director of Products and Services at Brasil Telecom, the competitive advantage for the companies adopting the solution will be impressive. "Vetor provides services over broadband access five to six time faster than traditional data communications services with a 15 to 20 percent monthly cost reduction for the customer."

The Juniper Networks solution provides, in the same network, multimedia services (data, voice and image traffic) and ERP software applications, such as SAP, and tools for customer relationship management (CRM) in the same network. The Vetor Service is already available in Brasil Telecom's entire concession area in the South and Center West, and in the states Acre, Rondônia and Tocantins.

Today in Brazil, the majority of solutions available for corporate networks use only Frame Relay and dedicated IP technologies, which results in a non-integrated solution from many individual suppliers. This design approach separates the data and telephony services and leads to higher costs. The Vetor Project provides a simplified and more cost-effective solution utilizing one supplier that is responsible for the entire network.

"We are very pleased that Brasil Telecom has chosen Juniper Networks for the foundation of their Vetor Service for the deployment of broadband access and next-generation virtual private network (VPN) services," said Tim Lambie, vice president, Latin America Sales, Juniper Networks.
