Estonian Telecom Selects Unisphere Networks' ERX Edge Router and Service Selection Center for On-demand IP Service Provisioning
Siemens to supply products that will ensure quality of service for upcoming Eurovision Song Contest
Rotterdam, Netherlands, May 24, 2002 — Unisphere Networks, Inc. today announced that Estonian Telephone Company (ETC), a fully owned subsidiary of Estonian Telecom, selected Unisphere Networks' ERX Edge Router and Service Selection Center (SSC) to provide advanced services for ADSL customers as part of an agreement with Siemens Information and Communication Networks (IC Networks). Together, Unisphere Networks' ERX and SSC provide the performance, density and scalability requirements needed to address the growing Estonian demand for dynamic next-generation broadband service provisioning.
In addition to advanced IP services, ETC chose Unisphere Networks' ERX and SSC to ensure the IP Quality of Service (QoS) for the broadcast of the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. The Eurovision Song Contest is a three-hour TV show viewed by nearly 300 million people in as many as 36 countries. ETC has decided to make the contest available to its DSL subscribers by giving them the option to select the multicasted streaming video through the Web-based portal interface of the SSC.

ETC is deploying Unisphere Networks' ERX Edge Router with integrated Broadband Remote Access Server (BRAS) functionality, specifically designed to deliver subscriber management, IP service support and Internet routing capabilities at wire-speed performance. When combined with Unisphere Networks' SSC, the ERX supports a dynamic service creation and delivery model that will allow ETC to offer innovative, on-demand broadband services. Unisphere Networks' products are built upon an Edge-Optimized Architecture, enabling wire-speed functionality with ensured IP QoS across network applications. With these products, ETC will save in capital investment and a more simplified network management.
