PT&T Deploys Unisphere Networks' ERX Edge Routers for Broadband Access Technology
Integrated subscriber access and carrier-grade routing platform enables high-speed IP services to residential and corporate subscribers throughout the Philippines
Manila, Philippines - May 6, 2002 — Unisphere Networks, Inc., a leading provider of IP infrastructure products to enable broadband data, voice and video services, today announced that PT&T Philippines, the incumbent telecommunications operator in the Philippines, has deployed Unisphere Networks' ERX Edge Routers. The ERX supports PT&T's broadband access technologies, including Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) and circuit aggregation services. Because of the integrated platform combining subscriber access, IP services and carrier-grade IP routing, the ERX enables PT&T to offer innovative, high-speed services to its subscribers throughout the Philippines.
PT&T has successfully deployed the ERX to deliver next-generation broadband services to both residential and corporate customers. PT&T also utilizes the ERX's virtual router support to provide wholesale broadband access to a large number of Internet Service Providers (ISPs), that in turn supply high speed Internet access to their customers. Because the ERX supports multiple distinct routers within a single platform, PT&T can configure many separate routers within a single chassis, creating a more cost-effective and secure wholesaling solution.
The flexibility of the ERX enables PT&T to deliver IP-based services like its innovative Click&CallTM, an Internet gaming kiosk that features a virtual theater environment designed for video gaming enthusiasts. The service is available in many cafes throughout the country. The ERX enables PT&T to ensure the quality of the gaming experience so that each customer receives the level of service subscribed for.
