Cellcom Deploys Juniper Networks M10 Routers For IP/MPLS Network In Israel

Israel's Largest Mobile Operator To Offer VPN Services for Both Fixed Line Data Traffic and GPRS

Sunnyvale, CA - November 5, 2002—Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR), a leading provider of trusted infrastructures for the New Public Network, today announced that Cellcom, Israel's leading mobile operator, has deployed Juniper Networks M10 routers in its nationwide network. The M10 routers will help generate new Virtual Private Network (VPN) service revenues, while reducing operational expenses through the consolidation of several internal mobile networks onto one IP/MPLS (Internet Protocol/ Multiprotocol Label Switching) backbone infrastructure.

Cellcom deployed the M10 router to support new VPN services for fixed line data traffic as well as General Packet Radio Service (GPRS). The M10 routers offer an advanced feature set, including support for MPLS functions and a number of VPN options that are all delivered at wire-speed. By consolidating separate internal IT networks responsible for vital functions such as billing, databases, and signaling using Layer 2 and Layer 3 VPN technology, the M10 routers further reduce Cellcom's operational expenses.

"We selected the Juniper Networks routers because their robust IP/MPLS VPN capabilities are specifically designed for a service provider's environment. The M10 routers provide us with the stability and scalability we need to add services and users without impacting the network and compromising service performance," said Lipa Ogman, vice president, operations, Cellcom.

"With the advanced MPLS capabilities featured in the M10 router, Cellcom now has the ability to support GPRS and extend the offering from mobile data to provide its customers with new revenue generating VPN services, while reducing operating costs," said Jean-David Lehmann, regional manager, Juniper Networks, Inc. "With the superior performance and high availability of the Juniper routers in its network Cellcom can offer its customers the best possible services."

Juniper Networks routers were chosen after a thorough evaluation process in which Cellcom and Netcom, the Juniper Networks system integration partner in Israel, built a proof of concept lab. Netcom is also responsible for the integration and support of the Juniper Networks products in the Cellcom network.
