Telenor and Siemens Deploy Advanced Broadband Services in Norway with Juniper Networks Technology

SDX-300 Service Deployment System Helps Customize Services for Individual Subscriber Needs

Sunnyvale, CA - October 10, 2002 —Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR), Siemens Information and Communication Networks (ICN), and Telenor today announced that Telenor Business Solutions, Norway's leading provider of broadband services to the private and business markets, has deployed Juniper Networks SDX-300 Service Deployment System in its nationwide IP network

In combination with the previously installed Juniper Networks ERX Edge Routers, the SDX-300 system enables Telenor to customize its broadband services to the needs of the individual subscriber. Through features such as Quality of Service (QoS), traffic shaping, prioritization and dynamic bandwidth allocation, Telenor is able to offer flexible service levels to its broadband customers.

In close cooperation with Siemens, Telenor will go through a multi-phase deployment of services with the Juniper Networks SDX-300 system. Once the deployment is complete, the individual subscriber will activate service offerings on an as-needed basis. The SDX-300 system automatically provisions the network to deliver those services, and accounts for service usage on an individual subscriber basis. In the first stage of the deployment, Telenor will use the SDX-300 system to implement service thresholds in order to control its customers' 'fair use policy.' Upon reaching the threshold, customers are automatically notified and may choose to upgrade to a superior service package.

"Siemens and Juniper Networks understand our business requirements and responded with a tailored carrier grade solution, world-class services and best of breed IP infrastructure products. We are confident that we now have the right infrastructure to provide our customers with the best possible services and this will help us maintain our leading market position," said Per Björck, CTO, Telenor Business Solutions.

"This is a breakthrough deployment for the broadband services industry," said Arne Besseberg, managing director, IC Networks, Siemens Norway. "Telenor is known for its innovative solutions and Siemens is proud to be acknowledged as a stable, reliable and trustworthy partner by integrating the SDX-300 platform in Telenor's network. The fact that 75% of Telenor's new ADSL customers have already chosen the service based on the SDX platform proves that this is a solution that corresponds to the end-users' needs."

"Juniper Networks SDX-300 Service Deployment System provides Telenor with the tools it needs to build an adaptable and scalable service environment, while eliminating the need for manual intervention by a network operator," said Jeff Lindholm, vice president, Worldwide Sales, Juniper Networks, Inc. "These value-added services produce incremental revenue streams wherein, capital expenditures and operational costs are reduced, market share is gained, and customer loyalty is increased."
