Shanghai Telecom Selects Juniper Networks to Expand Broadband Service Offerings
ERX Edge Routers Selected for Second Stage of Expansion Project
Sunnyvale, CA - Aug. 19, 2002 — Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR), a leading provider of trusted infrastructures for the New Public Network, and Shanghai Telecom, the telecommunication subsidiary of China Telecom in Shanghai province, today announced the deployment of Juniper Networks ERX Edge Routers for the second stage of a major expansion of Shanghai Telecom's broadband network. Shanghai Telecom selected the ERX for its comprehensive subscriber management or Broadband Remote Access Server (BRAS) capabilities, wire-speed performance and ability to enhance standard broadband connectivity offerings with innovative IP services.
This deployment will underpin enhancements to both the quality and the range of Shanghai Telecom's broadband services. The ERX routers will be installed in the eight major points of presence throughout the city of Shanghai, providing reliable and innovative access services for the growing installed base of broadband users. The ERX router, a unique, integrated solution that combines subscriber management capabilities with carrier-class edge routing, delivers the industry's highest concentration of reliable, dedicated routing connections. Built on an IP routing infrastructure that includes IP Quality of Service, this ERX router deployment enables next-generation services required by Shanghai Telecom customers, while scaling for future growth and maintaining legacy services.
