Juniper Networks G10 CMTS Receives DOCSIS 1.1 Qualification

DOCSIS 1.1 Qualification Provides Cable Operators with Best-in-class System to Add New Revenue Streams

Sunnyvale, CA - June 20, 2002 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR), a leading provider of trusted infrastructures for the New Public Network, today announced that its G10 Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) has received qualification from CableLabs for Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) 1.1. This milestone further underscores Juniper Networks commitment to delivering reliable Internet Protocol (IP) infrastructures that meet the current and future needs of its more than 500 service provider, cable and carrier customers.

Learn more about the DOCSIS 1.1-qualified G10 CMTS and Juniper Networks cable solutions

Built by combining a new silicon solution with Juniper Networks proven IP expertise, the DOCSIS 1.1 qualified G10 CMTS is the only CMTS that can support a wide range of PacketCable IP-based multimedia services with unparalleled performance and reliability, including Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), streaming video, interactive gaming and real-time video conferencing.

"DOCSIS 1.1 qualification represents the achievement of a key milestone for vendors in the CMTS space," said Patti Reali, principal analyst of the telecommunications group at Gartner Dataquest. "Cable operators are currently in the midst of assessing their options for next-generation DOCSIS 1.1-based broadband access platforms. When they decide to migrate to these platforms, cable network operators will seek out vendors with robust, reliable, high capacity and highly-scalable technologies that can help them deliver a broad suite of advanced IP services, such as tiered broadband services, IP voice, streaming media, desktop videoconferencing and eventually, video telephony. Gartner Dataquest believes that Juniper's G10 CMTS platform will be among those considered at the top of that list."

With Broadband Cable Processor silicon, Juniper Networks G10 CMTS is the highest performing, most reliable CMTS available today. Its breakthrough technology directly digitizes the entire 5-42 MHz return spectrum for DOCSIS networks and 5-65 MHz for Euro-DOCSIS networks, delivering in one ASIC all the performance and intelligence previously provided by 20 legacy CMTS chips. The purpose-built ASIC technology is leveraged by highly advanced software to provide a new level of performance, reliability, automated operation and network management support.

Juniper Networks G10 CMTS was the first CMTS to receive DOCSIS 1.0 in July 2001 and Euro-DOCSIS qualification running custom Broadband Cable Processor silicon. Use of this internally developed silicon is a notable departure from legacy silicon used in all other CMTS systems. Similarly, Juniper Networks is helping service providers, cable and carrier customers deliver scalable IP services through purpose-built IP software and custom ASICs designed to enhance access, mobile and core router performance. Juniper Networks G10 CMTS is distributed exclusively in North America by Scientific-Atlanta (NYSE: SFA) and is available in Europe and Asia from Juniper Networks, Scientific-Atlanta and other distribution channels.
