Juniper Networks Funds Three-year Scholarship in China, Meets with Government Leaders to Discuss Internet Protocol Networks
Continued Focus on China Market Opportunity and Building the Educational Infrastructure to Support Rapid Growth
Sunnyvale, CA - June 13, 2002 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR), a leading provider of trusted infrastructures for the New Public Network, today announced a three-year, $75,000 Juniper Networks Foundation Fund (JNFF) scholarship for the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT). The scholarship will support the tuition of 32 undergraduate students and 20 post-graduate students in a mix of disciplines including engineering, management and humanities. The grant reflects the JNFF's mission to share Juniper Networks success and resources with the communities served by the company and its customers. It supports organizations that improve the quality of education, enhance academic performance and educate teachers and students in the use of technology.
"BUPT is very proud of its more than 13,000 students' ability to return valuable technology knowledge throughout the country," said Dr. Lin, president of BUPT. "The graduates' employment rate is the highest among the universities in China and the majority have become key experts of the state's information industry. Many prominent government and business leaders in the communications field have graduated from the school, which is partly funded by the government."

Kriens is currently touring China in support of this grant and to meet with service provider customers and leading officials and ministers. During his visit, he will also meet with several leaders of China's Ministry of Information Industry. This group has already been actively involved in several Juniper Networks service provider customer accounts including China Mobile, China Unicom and China Cable. Resale and integration partner Ericsson continues to work with Juniper Networks local personnel on several of these opportunities.

The Juniper Networks Foundation Fund (JNFF) was established in May 2000 as a charitable fund administered by the Community Foundation of Silicon Valley (CFSV), a nonprofit organization that specializes in philanthropy and charitable giving. Since its establishment, the JNFF has made grants totaling $1,174,000 to 37 organizations globally.
