Callahan Group Company ISH Selects Juniper Networks M-series Routers for German Multiservice Cable Network

Ish to Offer Broadband and VoIP Services over Juniper Networks Platforms with a Potential Reach of Five Million Homes

Sunnyvale, CA - January 23, 2002 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR), a leading provider of next-generation Internet Protocol (IP) infrastructure, today announced Callahan's ish subsidiary, the cable operator in the Northrhine-Westfalia area of Germany, has deployed Juniper Networks M-series routers to deliver advanced voice and data service offerings in multiple Points-of-Presence (PoPs).

ish currently connects 4.2 million households with cable television (TV) service out of 5 million homes that could benefit from the ish multi-service cable network in Northrhine-Westfalia. In addition, ish offers its subscribers advanced Internet voice services, such as voice over IP and always-on, scalable broadband Internet connectivity services via TV-cable. Customers benefit from lower telephony costs and flexible high-speed Internet offerings, including a flat-rate service option.

"Growing our customer base requires an advanced IP infrastructure for media, telecommunications, and data traffic. We are offering customers comprehensive communications that are secure enough for confidential information, yet scalable enough to add new applications and service options. Our network, underscored by Juniper Networks software, system, and application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) reliability helps us deliver high-quality services while lowering our total cost of ownership. Juniper Networks, with its small footprint and ability to scale forward, actively new helps ish build and operate one of the world's most advanced networks for media, telecommunications and data traffic," said Chuck Carroll, chief technical officer at ish.

M5, M10 and M160 Internet routers are installed in six POPs in the Ruhrgebiet in Nordrhine-Westfalia, Germany's most densely populated area. The POPs are interconnected with OC-48/STM-16 circuits, with M5 and M10 routers acting as peering devices connecting to other service providers.

Deployment of the Juniper Networks routers in the ish network is part of a project led by Juniper Networks worldwide distribution partner Nortel. In this capacity, Nortel is responsible for the installation and maintenance of the network.
