AT&T To Deploy Unisphere Networks' ERX Edge Routers from Siemens in DSL Aggregation

Siemens and Unisphere team to deliver scalable aggregation solution

BOCA RATON, Fla. and WESTFORD, Mass., - October 16, 2001 - Siemens Information and Communication Networks (ICN) and its affiliate Unisphere Networks, Inc., today announced that AT&T has selected Unisphere Networks' ERX Edge Router for aggregation of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) access to the IP Network. The ERX equipment provided by Siemens will be deployed in AT&T regional hubs throughout the United States.

"Speed and quality of service are critical to AT&T, our customers and ultimately our shareholders," said Frank Ianna, president, AT&T Network Services. "We selected the Unisphere Networks´ ERX product from Siemens because it meets these needs."

"AT&T is one of the world's premier communications service providers. We are delighted to play such a key role in AT&T's rollout of DSL," said Jim Dolce, president and CEO, Unisphere Networks, Inc. "This agreement represents an important milestone for Unisphere and is yet another step towards achieving our goal of becoming a leader in carrier-class IP edge products."

AT&T required a full-featured platform for broadband aggregation to meet the large-scale demands for edge-enabled services. The ERX Edge Router is a unique, integrated solution that combines DSL subscriber management capabilities with carrier-class edge routing. Additionally, the ERX is engineered to provide wire-speed Quality of Service (QoS) to enable enhanced services such as video on demand and interactive gaming.

"Broadband access and IP convergence are core competencies that provide the basis of our growth strategy at ICN," said Tony Maher, member of the board of directors, Siemens ICN. "This relationship with AT&T strengthens our broadband access position in the US market and reaffirms our commitment to this strategy."

About the ERX

Unisphere Networks' ERX Edge Router delivers the next-generation IP infrastructure that enables world-class service providers to deploy high-speed Internet connections and value-added IP services to both businesses and consumers. The ERX product family provides wire-speed performance, sophisticated routing capabilities, carrier-class reliability and high-capacity port density. The ERX also enables a number of new revenue-generating services, such as IP QoS, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Unisphere Networks' ERX family includes three models - the high capacity ERX-1440 and ERX-1400, as well as the mid-range ERX-700. The ERX Edge Router is a member of Unisphere Networks' Intelligent Service POPÔ, a suite of best-in-class products designed to decouple services from the underlying network infrastructure and enable service providers to more cost-effectively create and provision new revenue-generating voice and data services.
