Telefónica Data Selects Juniper Networks for its IP Backbone

Sunnyvale, CA - July 24, 2001 - Telefónica Data, the Telefónica Group subsidiary that provides global telecommunications services to enterprises, and Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR), a leading provider of next-generation Internet Protocol (IP) infrastructure systems, today announced that Telefónica Data has selected Juniper Networks technology for its IP backbone. Juniper Networks M160 Internet backbone routers will enable both high-speed Internet access for Telefónica Data's domestic IP network infrastructure and for connections into its international network nodes.

With a primary business that requires 24x7 predictable performance across a variety of applications and the ability to scale easily in line with service demand, Telefónica Data selected Juniper Networks technology for its reliability, robustness, and scalability. Telefónica Data knows that Juniper Networks solutions will help it focus on delivering value-added, revenue-generating IP services to its customers.

"With fast, reliable connections in its IP transit nodes, Juniper Networks solutions proved to be the best of those tested in terms of complying with our high-level requirements for a backbone network," said Eduardo Caride, president and chief executive officer of Telefónica Data Corporation. "Juniper Networks continues to build a strong worldwide market share ensuring that Telefónica Data will fully maximize its IP network investment in the long-term."

"This is a significant global carrier customer win for Juniper Networks, and we're pleased to be working with Telefónica Data to build its global IP network infrastructure," stated Scott Kriens, president and chief executive officer of Juniper Networks. "By combining our proven carrier class data communications expertise with best-in-class IP technology, Juniper Networks has proven once again its commitment to fulfilling the stringent requirements set out by successful global multi-service carriers like Telefónica Data."
