Wind Selects Juniper Networks to Deliver Internet Scalability with IP Core Routers

Juniper Networks Certified as Wind's Privilege Partner for OC-192c-capable Core Routers

Sunnyvale, CA - June 21, 2001 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR), a leading provider of next-generation IP infrastructure systems, today announced that Wind®, a second national carrier in Italy, has selected Juniper Networks M160 Internet backbone routers to provide its core IP backbone throughout Italy.

Wind, one of the largest and fastest-growing Internet network companies in Italy, is among leading service providers worldwide, offering MPLS services and global IP convergence for fixed, mobile, and Internet telephony. By delivering reliable Internet access to leading businesses with the highest degree of efficiency, Wind's flexible Internet bandwidth and secure IP service offerings rely heavily on Juniper Networks robust and fully scalable M160 routers.

Wind commented: The choice of Juniper Networks as a Wind partner was a breeze. Wind's operations team realized the efficiencies of deploying concurrent Internet services using Juniper Networks platforms to provide a fast, reliable, and safe backbone network for their customers. By offering a standardized mechanism for secure Internet connections, Wind has gained a valuable, revenue-producing, MPLS feature set in JUNOS Internet software with packet processing through the Internet Processor II ASIC.

Wind selected Juniper Networks routers after lab-certifying the M-series infrastructure platforms, earning the company its status as one of the official partners of Wind for core routers. The next step of Wind Italian Internet router rollout involves additional strategic and technological alliances with Juniper Networks, including the deployment of additional Juniper Networks M-series Internet routers for the Wind-wide IP backbone. Further upgrades will offer Wind customers Internet application scalability and security for their businesses.

About Wind

Wind is the first Italian telecommunications company capable of offering integrated communication services for mobile and fixed line telephony and Internet access. Wind has 9.4 million customers, including 5.7 million mobile users, 2.6 million fixed line subscribers and 1.1 million Internet customers (as of March 31, 2001). Inwind, Italy's first multiaccess portal, represents a new way of surfing the Web, anywhere and anytime, providing access to the latest news and information, the possibility to read and write e-mails, to make searches, consult maps and make new friends via the chatroom from either PC or a Wap handset. The Wind portal reached over 2.5 million page views a day (as of February 28, 2001), doubling the number of views becoming one of the most visited sites in Italy. In recent months more than 25 new services and 13 information channels have been launched, which have made the portal one of the most complete in terms of content, 80 percent of which is also accessible from mobile handsets.
