Children's Discovery Museum and Juniper Networks Distribute Books to Local Head Start Classroom
San Jose, CA - Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose (CDM), in conjunction with Juniper Networks, Inc., will distribute a children's book, "A Book of Children's Discoveries," to the Story Road Head Start Classroom on Thursday, May 10th at 10:00 a.m.
Designed and produced by CDM, "A Book of Children's Discoveries" is an early literacy book based on the format of an ABC Book that takes children on an alphabetical tour through the museum. Also included is a packet of foam letters that match the letters displayed on each page of the book and will assist children with their Kindergarten readiness skills.
Employees and staff members from the Museum and Juniper Networks will distribute the first round of over 1,000 books, along with free passes to visit the Museum, giving pre-school and kindergarten children the opportunity to learn the letters in the books and relate them to exhibits and experiences within the Museum.
Children's Discovery Museum and Head Start teachers have been involved in a partnership to promote inquiry based learning in their classrooms. Head Start preschool programs are operated by the Santa Clara County Office of Education and provide child care to low income families.
Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose is the largest children's museum in the west and rated among the top five children's museums in the United States and top ten in the world. Admission is $7.00 for ages 1-59, $6.00 for visitors age 60 and over, and free for children under 1 and Children's Discovery Museum members. The non-profit museum has welcomed over 4 million children, families and educators since opening its purple gates in 1990, and as part of its focus on early childhood education and development, will release its first children's book in Summer 2001.
