CoreExpress Selects Juniper Networks Equipment for Multi-ISP Extranet Service

Sunnyvale, CA and St. Louis, MO - Dec. 13, 2000 — Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) and CoreExpress today announced the deployment of Juniper Networks M20 Internet backbone routers to provide unprecedented scalability and increased manageability for the CoreExpress Extranet service. CoreExpress will use the M20 routers with Juniper Networks new Internet Processor II ASIC to support the first data communications service with multi-ISP site-to-site performance guarantees.

The deployment will span the CoreExpress Internet Data Exchange System (iDESSM), which includes a 22,000-mile redundant, OC-192 fiber optic network. The Juniper Networks routers will act as gateways for customer traffic into the CoreExpress iDES platform from an ISP's network and enable CoreExpress to offer site-to-site performance guarantees for individual customers. These guarantees ensure high availability and minimal loss and latency between a customer and its partners, even if they use different ISPs.

"CoreExpress is delivering data with guaranteed reliability and quality across multiple ISPs so that businesses can now use the Internet for mission-critical communications. This means that our network performance and scalability requirements are more demanding than in any other service provider category," said Tony Zeis, chief technology officer, CoreExpress. "The Juniper Networks routers provide us with the highest scalability available so that our service can support even the largest business partner networks."

"The CoreExpress deployment is significant for Juniper Networks because it represents an adoption of our M-series product portfolio by a new generation of service providers," said Pradeep Sindhu, chief technology officer, Juniper Networks. "The M20 router with its Internet Processor II is purpose-built for our customers global Internet environment. This means performing without compromise even under the fluctuating demands of Internet traffic."

The CoreExpress Extranet provides the ideal solution for deploying a large-scale, multi-ISP business partner network. Now businesses can use the Internet for delivering applications, such as time-sensitive data transactions, supply chain management, customer relationship management, enterprise resource planning, e-procurement, B2B integration and other emerging applications. As a result, CoreExpress customers are able to streamline communications with business partners and reach new target markets.

Juniper Networks M20 routers enable CoreExpress to establish high-speed connectivity to its customer sites through their existing ISPs and rapidly establish new customer connections through the M20 router's auto provisioning features. Additionally, CoreExpress is leveraging the M20 router's advanced processing capabilities to track data transferred between business partners and bill its customers based on traffic transferred between customers with different classes of service. It will also enable CoreExpress to provide Service Level Agreement compensation directly proportional to the traffic sent to an affected site. With these capabilities, Core Express enables customers to share mission-critical data over the Internet with all of their business partners and add new ones quickly and easily, while adding a new layer of confidence for their customers through added performance and reliability.
