Juniper Networks M20 and M40 Routers at the Core of IPERGY's 'Single Hop' European IP Network

Sunnyvale, CA - July 12, 2000 — Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:JNPR), a leading provider of IP infrastructure systems, today announced that IPERGY, a new European carrier's carrier has deployed Juniper Networks M20 and M40 Internet backbone routers at the core of its pan-European IP backbone.

IPERGY has installed a total of sixteen M40 routers in the six combined Points of Presence (POPs) and data centers in London, Brussels, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Paris and Amsterdam. OC-48/STM-16 circuits (2.5 Gbps) operate between the POPs. Additionally, IPERGY has deployed M20 routers in Geneva, Zurich, Milan, Madrid, Washington and New York.

"We looked at various IP Internet backbone routers, but Juniper Networks was the only company that shipped products that were capable of wire rate STM-16 IP routing. The M20 and M40 routers offer us the necessary performance for our pan-European IP infrastructure. In addition, our rapidly growing customer base and the increasing demand for data traffic dictate us to be prepared to scale our network operations. The Juniper Networks M-series routers allow us to do this like no other," said Michael Ferioli, Managing Director of IPERGY.

The pan-European IPERGY network, which is managed from Brussels, is fully designed on native IP and building upon MPLS technology. It is one of the largest European-centric Internet backbones and is optimized for European services. The network is designed, implemented and managed as a single network based on a 'single hop single AS network' concept, which enables it to guarantee uninterrupted high quality service at all points of the network.

"Leading-edge capabilities such as a full suite of interfaces and the powerful traffic engineering features of MPLS give IPERGY a very competitive solution. IPERGY is a very good illustration of a new IP company wanting state-of-the-art technology in their network," noted Tony Morrish, Operations Director EMEA at Juniper Networks.

Softway, Juniper Networks value added reseller in France, was responsible for the supply and installation of the M20 and M40 routers and will also take care of first line support.
