Juniper Networks M40 Internet Backbone Routers at Core of IBR IP Infrastructure in Korea

Sunnyvale, CA - July 12, 2000 — Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:JNPR), a leading provider of next-generation IP infrastructure systems, today announced Korea's Internet Business Resources (IBR), one of the country's largest colocation and private peering service providers has installed Juniper Networks M40 Internet backbone routers for its nationwide IP backbone.

The M40 routers are installed in key Points of Presence (POPs) in every major city in Korea. IBR® operates a huge facility-based data exchange system called NPIX (Neutral Private Internet eXchange), which enables corporations and Internet firms to by-pass Korea's often-congested public Internet, thereby increasing the access speed to their intranet and external Web sites.

"The NPIX-type service has been widely accepted as the next-generation solution for business-to-consumer and business-to-business Internet networking in the United States," said Mr. Jason Ryu, CEO of IBR. "In order for the technique to work effectively, the service provider's infrastructure has to be top notch, built around the latest and most advanced networking equipment," he said. "In the case of IBR, extensive testing determined that Juniper Networks M40 routers were the most capable of providing the performance we were looking for."

The majority of the M40 routers are installed at IBR's first data center in Seoul. IBR will run five OC-3 optical backbone trunks (155 Megabit per second (Mbps), between the two data centers with Gigabit Ethernet interfaces being used to link the servers via local area networks within the data centers.

"IBR is leading the way in the enormous growth of the Korean Internet market. They understand the issues in the market place and act accordingly. With the installation of the M40 routers, IBR has equipped itself with a state-of-the-art IP infrastructure to support this growth," said Wayne Merrick, Juniper Networks Asia-Pacific regional sales manager.

IBR has plans to offer innovative Voice over IP services (VoIP) and streaming media services on the same network. Aside from its NPIX service, IBR will operate BASX, a real-time Billing & Customer Care System aimed at Internet Service Providers. The BASX system will also be delivered over the Juniper Networks IP infrastructure.
