Juniper Networks Enables Cable & Wireless First Wire-rate OC-192c/STM-64 Circuit

Uses Juniper Networks Full Performance 160 Gbps Router

Mountain View, CA - March, 28, 2000 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:JNPR), a leading provider of next-generation IP infrastructure systems, established its leadership in the OC-192c/STM-64 router market with the deployment of the M160 Internet backbone router in Cable & Wireless global network. The M160 platform is currently routing IP traffic at OC-192c/STM-64 or 10 Gigabits per second (Gbps) between New York and Washington D.C., two of the largest traffic hubs in the United States. This amount of traffic exceeds over a half million simultaneous voice over IP (VoIP) calls.

"The core of the Internet is an extremely demanding environment that requires full and predictable service performance for our OC-192c circuits, as well as complete interoperability with our existing IP infrastructure equipment. Juniper Networks offers the only wire-rate 10 Gbps (OC-192c/STM-64) interface available today," said Robert Flood, CTO of Cable & Wireless. "In addition the M160 router ships with a complete set of optical interfaces and offers the industry's best interface density."

Like the M40 and M20 platforms, the M160 router utilizes Juniper Networks proven ASIC design and JUNOS operating system specifically designed for the Internet and emerging IP infrastructure. By leveraging components already in use in the Cable & Wireless network today, the M160 router is ready for rapid deployment.

"We are extremely pleased at the adoption and immediate use of the M160 router with OC-192c/STM-64 circuits in the Cable & Wireless network," said Scott Kriens, chief executive officer and president, Juniper Networks. "This enables Cable & Wireless to continue growing their customer base by offering the highest transmission speed available."

Juniper Networks delivery of the first full-performance OC-192c/STM-64 platform ready for production networks underscores our technical leadership in the heart of the Internet. Cable & Wireless selection of the M160 platform with OC-192c/STM-64 interfaces further advances our leadership in the core of the largest and fastest-growing networks in the world.
