Verio Bolsters Backbone with New Juniper Networks M20 Routers

Mountain View, CA - Dec. 7, 1999 — Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:JNPR), a leading provider of next-generation Internet infrastructure systems, today announced that Verio Inc. (Nasdaq:VRIO) has ordered $7 million of the new Juniper Networks M20 routers for its Tier 1 national network. Verio has tested and plans to install the new M20 router at the company's network access points, where its performance, stability, and reliability promote the further expansion and diversification of Verio's advanced Web hosting and business Internet services.

The Juniper Networks M20 router is purpose-built for the service provider edge, delivering core-like performance for regional networks and large Internet Service Providers (ISPs) faced with the challenge of expanding their networks at the same rate of growth as the Internet core. The M20 router joins the M40 Internet backbone router in the Juniper Networks product family. Both products share common software, services, and a unique ASIC technology for full compatibility and easy scalability to serve critical service provider applications including high-speed access, peering, and hosting.

"At Verio, we have a particularly strong need for a reliable, scalable, and high-speed access router for our network's edge, where growth is especially fast," said Chris DeMarche, Chief Technology Officer at Verio. "The new Juniper Networks M20 moves core-like performance closer to our customers, eliminating network bottlenecks. This is critical to the success of our service offerings, which include hosting and high-speed Internet access connections. In addition, the M20 is a perfect complement to our installed base of Juniper Networks M40 backbone routers, eliminating compatibility issues and easing deployment, operation, and growth."

"The growth of the Internet both in size and diversification demands that access router technology catch up with the core buildout," said Pradeep Sindhu, CTO of Juniper Networks. "The M20 fills an immediate need at Verio's network access points, and its core-like performance characteristics provide an excellent platform for future growth. We are delighted to continue our long-standing relationship with Verio, and look forward to serving their IP infrastructure needs in the future."
