Juniper Networks Opens Japanese Subsidiary: Names Tsunemi Shitara General Manager

Mountain View, CA - May 17, 1999 — Juniper Networks, Inc., a leading provider of Internet backbone routers, has moved to further strengthen its international presence by opening a subsidiary company, Juniper Networks K.K., in Tokyo. Juniper Networks K.K. will be responsible for supporting the sales efforts of the Juniper Networks Japanese distribution partners, NTT PC Communications, Inc. and Nissho Electronics Corporation, and increasing the company's presence in Japan.

To spearhead the expansion of the company's presence in Japan, Juniper is pleased to announce that the company has named Tsunemi Shitara as general manager. Shitara is well-known in Japan for his success in establishing Nihon Cisco Systems K.K. in 1992 and in growing the Cisco subsidiary to more than $700M in annual revenues and 250 employees by 1999. Shitara is an internationally known writer in the field of Wide Area Network (WAN) connectivity.

"Tsunemi Shitara is uniquely qualified to strengthen and expand our operations in Japan with his outstanding track record and reputation for building the type of organization that is required to successfully serve the Japanese market," said Scott Kriens, president and chief executive officer, Juniper Networks.

Juniper Networks K.K is the second international office of Juniper Networks. In March of this year, the company launched its first international office in Leatherhead, England, to serve the pan-European market. Juniper Networks KK headquarters is in the KDD Otemachi Bldg. 21 Floor, 1-8-1 Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo 100-0004.
