Introduction to the Service Deployment System (SDX300) for JUNOSe

Course No: EDU-JUN-SDX300R

Length: Five days

Cost: $3,375 (US) Schedule and Registration

Course Overview

This course is designed to provide a solid foundation to the Service Deployment System (SDX-300) when managing routers running JUNOSe software. In this type of environment, the SDX-300 application typically manages residential and wireless LAN (WLAN) users. This course provides an overview of the SDX-300 architecture, which operates in a distributed environment, although the labs are done in a local, single-system configuration.

Objectives

After successfully completing this course, you should be able to:

  • Describe the SDX-300 application and how it manages JUNOSe-based routers in a residential and WLAN environment;
  • Use the SDX-300 application to gain access to the Internet and activate services;
  • Describe the SDX-300 architecture;
  • Describe basic LDAP terminology;
  • Use SDX Admin to view and modify the LDAP directory, and add new subscribers and new services;
  • Use Policy Editor to create new policies;
  • Use the E-series router CLI to view and troubleshoot policy configuration;
  • Describe packet flow in PPP and DHCP environments;
  • Describe the purpose of the interface and user classification scripts;
  • Configure a wholesaler/retailer environment using service bundles;
  • Describe the purpose of internal and external plug-ins;
  • Modify default internal plug-in configuration using SDX Configuration Editor;
  • Describe the purpose of the DHCP classification script and DHCP profiles;
  • Configure dynamic subscriber interfaces on the E-series router;
  • Configure the SDX-300 application to manage dynamic subscriber interfaces;
  • Install and configure the SDX-300 software on a single SDX-300 machine, including the Merit RADIUS server, OpenLDAP Directory Server, IP Filter, and the Redirect Engine;
  • Configure the service activation engine using SDX Configuration Editor;
  • Configure a new provider's SDX-300 environment, including initializing the directory with demo data and populating the directory with new edge devices, policies, services, and subscribers; and
  • Test and troubleshoot the new SDX-300 environment.

Intended Audience

This course is intended for technical network professionals responsible for the integration, configuration, and management of the SDX-300 software.

Course Level

This is an intermediate- to advanced-level course designed to provide a strong foundation for configuring the SDX-300 software and understanding how it manages JUNOSe-based routers.

Prerequisites

The prerequisites for the Introduction to the Service Deployment System (SDX-300) for JUNOSe class are the Introduction to Juniper Networks Routers-E-series course or equivalent knowledge and the E-series B-RAS Configuration Basics course or equivalent knowledge. The student must understand fundamental B-RAS concepts, including PPPoE and bridged IP connections using DHCP, as well as a basic understanding of the E-series Policy Manager, including classifier lists, rate-limit profiles, and policy lists. The student should have basic UNIX skills, including software installation, file management functions (cd, pwd, cp, mv, etc.), network operation commands (ifconfig, netstat, etc.), and adding UNIX subscribers and groups. The student should also have solid knowledge of IP, including addressing, subnetting, and basic routing concepts.
