Using NIC Web Admin

With NIC Web Admin, you can view components in a NIC configuration. You can also simulate a resolution for a NIC.

Before you use NIC Web Admin, you need to set up users and passwords.

See SDX Getting Started Guide, Chapter 11, Installing Web Applications.

Tasks to use NIC Web Admin are:

  1. Deploying NIC Web Admin Files Inside the Web Application Server
  2. Starting NIC Web Admin
  3. Connecting to the Directory
  4. Selecting a NIC Configuration Scenario

Deploying NIC Web Admin Files Inside the Web Application Server

You must deploy the Web archive (WAR) file for NIC Web Admin in the Web application server. You can find this file, nicAdmin.war, in the folder webapp in the SDX software distribution. See the documentation for the Web application server for information about deploying applications.

To deploy NIC Web Admin inside JBoss:

cp /cdrom/cdrom0/webapp/nicAdmin.war /opt/UMC/jboss/server/default/deploy

JBoss automatically starts the application when a WAR file is copied into the deploy directory.

Starting NIC Web Admin

To start NIC Web Admin:

  1. In your Web browser, enter the URL of the host on which you installed NIC Web Admin, and press Enter.
  2. http://192.0.2.1:8080/nicAdmin

The Enter Network password dialog box appears.

  1. Enter the username and the password.

The NIC Web Admin Home page appears.

Connecting to the Directory

You must connect to the directory that contains the NIC configuration. If, after connecting to the directory, you do not use NIC Web Admin for 30 minutes or more, it disconnects from the directory. In this case, you need to reconnect NIC Web Admin to the directory.

To connect to the directory:

  1. Click Dir Connection.

The Directory Connection page appears.

  1. Enter the connection information for the directory that contains the NIC configuration data, and click Connect.

If you use NIC replication, specify the group name in the Dynamic Base DN box; for example, ou=group1, ou=dynamicConfiguration, ou=Configuration, ou=Management, o=umc.

Selecting a NIC Configuration Scenario

When you have connected to the directory, you must select a NIC configuration scenario.

To select a NIC configuration scenario:

  1. Click Scenario Selection.

The Select Scenario page appears and displays the NIC configuration in the directory you specified.

  1. Select a scenario, and click OK.
