Installing and Initially Configuring the VTA Software

Because VTAs rely on other components in the SDX network, you must complete several tasks before you install the VTA software. After you install the software, you must also complete several configuration tasks before the application can function correctly.

For information about the location of VTA software on the application library CD, see Chapter 1, Installing the SDX Applications.

Before You Start

Before you install and configure a VTA, you must:

  1. Deploy a working SDX network.

To support the VTA, you must install SAEs to manage the routers or other devices through which subscribers connect to the network. You must also install and configure the directory in which you will store the SDX data.

  1. Install a J2EE application server on the host that supports the VTA.

For information about installing JBoss (the J2EE application server provided with the SDX software), see SDX Software Basics Guide, Chapter 5, Installing the SDX-300 Software.

  1. On the host that supports the VTA, install a relational database to store the data that the VTA tracks.

Installing and Initially Configuring the VTA Software

To install each VTA:

  1. Install the Solaris packages for the VTA (see Chapter 1, Installing the SDX Applications) on the hosts that support the following components:
  1. Run the VTA configuration script on each VTA host. The script configures JBoss for the VTA, installs JBoss client libraries, and loads sample data. To invoke the script, access the folder /opt/UMC/conf/vta, and run the load command.
  2. cd /opt/UMC/conf/vta

    ./load

  3. On each host, restart JBoss and the SAE.
  4. Configure the VTA and associated components (see Related Configuration Tasks and Configuring the VTA).
