BGP Configuration Guidelines > Choosing the Protocol Used to Determine the Next Hop

By default, BGP uses the active routes determined from all IGPs when resolving routes to next hops. To limit the IGPs that BGP uses, include the protocol statement, specifying the protocol as isis or ospf:

protocol protocol;
