Upgrade to Release 4.2

Before upgrading, you should back up the currently running and active file system so that you can recover to a known, stable environment in case something goes wrong with the upgrade:

  user@host> request system snapshot

To upgrade to Release 4.2, follow these steps to install the JUNOS 4.2 software bundle:

  1. Add the new package:
For customers in the United States and Canada, use the following command:
user@host> request system software add path/jbundle4.2R3.3-domestic.tgz

path is the full path name to the bundle. To download this software from the Juniper Networks FTP site, specify path and the filename as ftp://ftp.juniper.net/private/junos/4.2R3.3/packages/All/
    jbundle-4.2R3.3-domestic.tgz.
For all other customers, use the following command:
user@host> request system software add path/jbundle-4.2R3.3-export.tgz

path is the full path name to the bundle. To download this software from the Juniper Networks FTP site, specify path and the filename as ftp://ftp.juniper.net/private/junos/4.2R3.3/packages/All/jbundle-4.2R3.3-export.tgz.
  2. Reboot the router to start the new software:
     user@host> request system reboot
