Example: Configuring Trunk Groups (J-Web)

In this example, you configure trunk groups. Trunk groups are composed of trunks, which you configure discretely outside trunk groups, and then add them to them. For a trunk group composed of multiple trunks, you specify the trunks in order of precedence in which they should be used to route a call.

You add trunk groups that you create to route patterns in a dial plan. When a called number matches the digit pattern of a route pattern, the system attempts to route the call using the first trunk specified in the preferred trunk group for that route pattern. You do not need to use preference numbers for trunk groups, in which case the first trunk group assigned to the route pattern is considered the preferred one. If the first trunk is busy, then the second trunk is tried, and so on, in order through the list of trunks configured for the trunk group.

The trunk groups and their trunks configured for this example are identified in Table 10.

Using the trunks that you configured previously, configure two trunk groups called mgTrnk1 and mgTrnk2. Add the preconfigured trunks to them in the order in which you want the trunks to be tried.

Create a trunk group called mgTrnk1.

  1. Select Convergence Services > Media Gateway > Trunk groups, and click Add to add the new trunk.
  2. In the New Trunk Group Configuration box, enter mgTrnk1 in the Trunk group name field.
  3. From the Available trunks section, move the following trunks that you created previously to the Selected trunks section: fxoTrnk1, fxoTrnk2, and fxoTrnk3.

Create a second trunk group called mgTrnk2.

  1. Select Convergence Services > Media Gateway > Trunk groups, and click Add to add the new trunk.
  2. In the New Trunk Group Configuration box, enter mgTrnk2 in the Trunk group name field.
  3. From the Available Trunks section, move the following trunks to the Selected trunks section: fxoTrnk4, fxoTrnk5, and fxoTrnk6.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click Commit to commit the configuration.
