Summary of Configuration Tasks for the SIM and SMS Authentication Modules
This chapter provides a summary of the mandatory and optional tasks associated with configuring the optional SIM and SMS authentication modules. Some configuration tasks are unique to the specific module you are configuring, and some are common to both modules.
Table 145 summarizes the configuration tasks associated with the SIM authentication module, and Table 146 summarizes the tasks associated with the SMS authentication module.
Configure the SS7/IP network communication.
This is a multi-step process that includes:
- Configuring the SS7 or SIGTRAN protocol stack
- Configuring the MAP gateway application, which acts as a link between Steel-Belted Radius Carrier and the SS7 network by formatting and transmitting Mobile Access Part (MAP) requests to the Home Location Register (HLR) over the SS7 network. This configuration process includes:
Define the settings for authenticating Access-Request messages by configuring the
gsmmap.genfile.Chapter 19, Configuring the gsmmap.gen File for the SIM or SMS Authentication Module
Chapter 17, Configuring EAP-SIM and EAP-AKA for the SIM Authentication Module
Optionally, configure Call Detail Record (CDR) accounting (
cdracct.accfile).Chapter 20, Configuring the CDR Accounting Files for Use with the SIM or SMS Authentication Module
Optionally, if you are using an LDAP directory or SQL database to store subscriber credentials, configure the data accessors.
Chapter 21, Configuring the Data Accessors for the SIM and SMS Authentication Modules
Optionally configure the special attribute handling features.
Chapter 22, Configuring the Special Attribute Handling Features for Use With the SIM Authentication Module
Optionally, if you are interfacing with a Kineto UMA Network Controller (UNC), configure the SIM authentication module to properly handling the Kineto attributes.
Configure the SS7/IP network communication.
This is a multi-step process that includes:
- Configuring the SS7 or SIGTRAN protocol stack.
- Configuring the SMSGateway application which manages all communication between Steel-Belted Radius Carrier and the Mobile Switching Center (MSC) over the SS7 network. This configuration process includes:
Optionally, if you want to retrieve subscriber credentials from a Home Location Register (HLR) in your network, you need to configure the MAP gateway application, which acts as a link between Steel-Belted Radius Carrier and the SS7 network by formatting and transmitting Mobile Access Part (MAP) requests to the Home Location Register (HLR) over the SS7 network. This configuration process includes:
Define the settings for authenticating Access-Request messages by configuring the gsmmap.gen file.
Chapter 19, Configuring the gsmmap.gen File for the SIM or SMS Authentication Module
Configure the SMS provisioning (
smsprov.aut)and authentication (smsauth.aut)files, and the SMS message file (smsmsg.gen).Optionally, configure Call Detail Record accounting (
cdracct.accfile).Chapter 20, Configuring the CDR Accounting Files for Use with the SIM or SMS Authentication Module
Optionally, if you are using an LDAP directory or SQL database to store subscriber credentials, configure the data accessors.
Chapter 21, Configuring the Data Accessors for the SIM and SMS Authentication Modules
Optionally, if you are interfacing with a Kineto UMA Network Controller (UNC), configure the SIM authentication module to properly handling the Kineto attributes.
