Executing CoA and Disconnect Requests Using SBR Administrator
NOTE: CoA/DM support is only available with the optional Session Control license.
Because the make and model of NAS devices differ in each network environment, the default actions defined in the deviceModels.xml file for Change of Authorization (CoA) and Disconnect Message (DM) requests are for example purposes only. To issue CoA or DM (action) requests to NAS devices in your network, you need to define supporting actions in the deviceModels.xml file for each NAS in your network, and specify the appropriate attribute packing list for each NAS make and model.
After an action is defined in the deviceModels.xml file, a button labeled with the name of the action becomes available in the Current Sessions panel of SBR Administrator. To execute the action, you simply perform a query to locate and select one or more sessions, and then select the action button to execute the action.
When configuring actions in the deviceModels.xml file, be consistent about what you name the actions for the various makes and models of NAS devices in your network. Naming actions consistently enables you to simply invoke the action without regard for which NAS is handling the session you want to take action on.
Example of Executing a Disconnect Action
NOTE: The procedure in this section is an example only, and assumes you have already created the action titled Disconnect in the deviceModels.xml file.
After you have found a list of sessions matching the criteria you specify, you can select one or more of the sessions to disconnect. The effect of disconnecting sessions on the current session table (CST) is described in Table 108.
- Find the sessions that meet the criteria you specify. (See Searching for Sessions Using SBR Administrator591.)
- In the Total Sessions list, select one or more sessions (Figure 202).
To select more than one session, hold down the ctrl key and click on the sessions. To select all sessions, press ctrl+a.
A Disconnect dialog opens (Figure 205).
- In the Request Parameters field, leave the Acct-Session-Id checkbox unchecked and leave the field as (using session data). The example shown in Figure 205 does not show the information for the Request Parameters field.
This area of the dialog indicates that the session identifiers are taken from the sessions you selected.
A watch icon appears while the disconnect request is processed. One or more of the result tabs becomes active (Successes, Failures, Timeouts, Errors), depending on the result of the disconnect attempt (Figure 206).

A Session Data dialog opens (Figure 207). The Session Data dialog has a different appearance for different device makes and models. The attributes that appear in the Session Data dialog vary depending on the make and model of the device. Different devices send different attribute packing lists and values.
