Troubleshooting the Switching Planes in the Routing Matrix

Problem

The switching plane in the routing matrix consist of the TXP-F2S SIBs and TXP-F13 SIBs in the TX Matrix Plus router and the TXP-T1600 SIBs in the T1600 router. During normal operation:

  • The LINK LED and RxPWR LED for a fiber-optic array port are both lit green.
  • The output for the show chassis fabric plane extensive command shows that the state of the optical switch fabric links are Links ok.
  • The output for the show chassis fabric topology command shows that the state of the electrical switch fabric links are OK.

The following indicate a problem with the switching planes:

  • The LINK LED for a fiber-optic array port is not lit, blinking yellow, steadily yellow, or steadily red.
  • The RxPWR LED for a fiber-optic array port is not lit or yellow.
  • The output for the show chassis fabric plane extensive command shows that the state of any optical switch fabric link is not Links ok.
  • The output for the show chassis fabric topology command shows that the state of any electrical switch fabric link is not OK.

Solution

To troubleshoot the switching planes:

  1. Check the LEDs:
    • LINK LED for a fiber-optic array port is blinking yellow—Verify that the same label is attached to both sides of the fiber-optic array cable and that the cable is connected to the correct ports. The fiber-optic array cable is connected to either the wrong TXP-T1600 SIB port or wrong TXP-F13 SIB port.
    • LINK LED for a fiber-optic array port is lit red—Use the CLI to check the status of the TXP-F13 SIB. The link either has detected errors or is not functioning normally.
    • RxPWR LED for a fiber-optic array port is lit yellow—We recommend that you clean the corresponding TXP-F13 SIB and TXP-T1600 SIB fiber-optic array ports and the fiber-optic array cable connectors.
  2. show chassis fabric plane extensive command indicates that the state of any optical link is not OK—We recommend that you clean the corresponding TXP-F13 SIB and TXP-T1600 SIB fiber-optic array ports and the fiber-optic array cables.

  3. Display the system log messages to obtain information about link failures. The /var/log/messages file is a commonly configured destination for system log messages. To display it, issue the show log command. For example:
    user@host> show log messages

For more information about system log messages, see the Junos OS System Log Messages Reference PDF Document.

Your customer support representative can assist you with using the information in the system log, along with the supplied fiber-optic array loopback connector and adapter, to determine if you have a faulty TXP-F13 SIB, TXP-T1600 SIB, or fiber-optic array cable.

Caution: Do not connect and disconnect a fiber-optic array cable connector, a loopback connector, or a loopback adapter more frequently than required to perform the procedures in this hardware guide. These fiber-optic components are rated for a limited number of insertions (approximately 100).
