Taking a Switching Data Plane Offline

Before you replace a TXP-F13 SIB, TXP-F2s SIB, fiber-optic array cable, clean fiber-optic array cables, you can take the data switching plane offline to avoid performance degredation.

  1. Issue the show chassis fabric plane-location command to identify the switching plane affected by the replacement or maintenance procedure. For example, the TXP-F13 SIB in slot 6 resides in switching plane 2. The corresponding TXP-F2 SIBs are 2/0, 2/2, 2/4, 2/6.
    user@host> show chassis fabric plane-location

  2. Determine if the component resides in an active switching plane and verify that there is a spare plane by issuing the show chassis fabric plane detail command:
user@host> show chassis fabric plane detail

    SIB 2: Online
    SIB 3: Online
    SIB 4: Online

In this example, the TXP-F13 SIB resides in an active switching plane. You can take switching plane 2 offline by taking a corresponding TXP-F2 SIB in the same plane offline. If the replacement or maintenance procedure is to be performed on a component in a switching plane that is in the spare state, it is not necessary to take the switching plane offline.

  3. Take the switching plane offline by issuing the request chassis sib f2s slot slot-number offline command. For example:
user@host> request chassis sib f2s slot 2/0 offline
Offline initiated, use "show chassis sibs" to verify

  4. After you have finished the replacement or maintenance procedure, issue the request chassis sib f2 slot slot-number online command to put the switching plane into the spare state. For example:
user@host> request chassis sib f2s slot 2/0 online
Online initiated, use "show chassis sibs" to verify

  5. Issue the show chassis fabric plane detail command to confirm that the switching plane is in the spare state.
user@host> show chassis fabric plane detail
