Powering Off an M10i Router

To power off the router:

  1. On an external management device connected to the Routing Engine, issue the request system halt both-routing-engines operational mode command. The command shuts down the Routing Engines cleanly, so their state information is preserved. (If the router contains only one Routing Engine, issue the request system halt command.)

Note: The CFEB or CFEB-E might continue forwarding traffic for approximately 5 minutes after the request system halt command has been issued.

    user@host> request system halt both-routing-engines

Wait until a message appears on the console confirming that the operating system has halted.

Halt the system ? [yes,no] (no) yes

Please press any key to reboot.

For more information about the commands, see the Junos OS System Basics and Services Command Reference.

  2. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  3. For each power supply, press the power switch on the power supply faceplate to the OFF (O) position.

Note: After powering off a power supply, wait at least 60 seconds before turning it back on.
