Installing a VCCI Module in an XRE200 External Routing Engine

XRE200 External Routing Engines have two Virtual Chassis Control Interface (VCCI) module slots on the front panel. The slots support 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ-45 and 1000BASE-X Gigabit Ethernet small form-factor pluggable (SFP) VCCI modules. You can use this installation procedure for both types of VCCI modules.

VCCI modules are offline field-replacable units (FRUs).

Ensure that you have the following parts and tools available to install a VCCI module:

  • A Phillips (+) screwdriver, number 2

Caution: You must power off the external Routing Engine before you remove or insert a VCCI module.

To install a VCCI module in an external Routing Engine (see Figure 1):

  1. Power off the XRE200 External Routing Engine. See Powering Off an XRE200 External Routing Engine.
  2. If the VCCI module slot has an installed VCCI module, remove the module. See Removing a VCCI Module from an XRE200 External Routing Engine.
  3. Taking care not to touch VCCI module components, pins, leads, or solder connections, remove the module from its bag.
  4. Ensure the VCCI module is properly aligned with the VCCI module slot. When the module faceplate is properly aligned, the port numbers on the face plate read 0 through 3 from left to right.
  5. Insert the VCCI module into the VCCI module slot, and gently push the module all the way into the slot until the module is seated flush in the slot.

Caution: Do not use too much force to get the VCCI module seated flush into the VCCI module slot. If backpressure is preventing the module from seating flush in the module slot, remove the module from the slot and retry the procedure, taking care to ensure the module is properly aligned with the module slot.

  6. Tighten both screws on the VCCI module using your fingers. If additional tightening is necessary, tighten the screws using the screwdriver.
  7. Repeat Step 2 through Step 6 if you need to install a second VCCI module.
  8. Power on the external Routing Engine. See Powering On an XRE200 External Routing Engine.
