Removing a Fiber-Optic Array Cable
 | Note:
If you have previously routed a spare fiber-optic array
cable between the TX Matrix Plus router and T1600 router, some of
the steps in this procedure have already been performed. |
To replace a fiber-optic array cable:
- Take the switching plane offline.
See Taking a Switching Data Plane Offline.
- Bring the TXP-F13 SIB offline
using one of the following methods:
- To bring a TXP-F13 SIB and the TXP-T1600 SIBs connected
to it offline, press and hold the SIB online/offline button
in the middle of the TXP-F13 SIB faceplate until the OK LED
and the RxPWR port LEDs on the TXP-F13 SIB are not lit.
- Press and hold the online/offline button on the TXP-T1600
SIB faceplate until the RX LED is not lit.
- Issue the following CLI commands:
user@host> request chassis sib f13 slot slot-number offline
Offline initiated, use "show chassis sibs" to verify
The slot number can be from 0 through 15 and corresponds to
the TXP-F13 SIB chassis slot on the TX Matrix Plus Router.
user@host> request chassis sib slot slot-number lcc lcc-number offline
Offline initiated, use "show chassis sibs" to verify
The slot number can be from 0 through 4 and corresponds to the
TXP-T1600 SIB chassis slot. The LCC number can be 0 through 3 and
corresponds to the TXP-F13 SIB adapters labeled LCC0 through LCC3.
- Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap
to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points
on the chassis.
- Remove the fiber-optic array cable connectors from the
TXP-F13 SIB and TXP-T1600 SIB.
- Install a dust cover on each of the removed cable connectors.
Align the dust cover with the cable connector and carefully press
them together until they stop. The cover and the cable connector are
keyed to ensure proper mating.
 | Caution:
During maintenance or replacement procedures, small
deposits of oil, dust, and debris can enter the fiber-optic array
ports and the fiber-optic array cable connectors. |
- Remove the fiber-optic array cable. If the cable is greater
than 10 m long, we recommend that you reinstall the pulling-eye assembly
on one end of the cable to facilitate pulling the cable through the
raceway.
Installing a Fiber-Optic Array Cable
 | Note:
You must use the same length for every fiber-optic array
cable from a particular T1600 router to the TX Matrix Plus router.
However, you do not need to use the same length for all fiber-optic
array cables within a routing matrix. |
- Using the supplied label sheets, attach a label to each
end of the replacement fiber-optic array cable to help you identify
the corresponding TXP-F13 SIB connector and TXP-T1600 SIB.
- Make sure that the port is offline.
 | Warning:
Do not look directly into a fiber-optic array port
or a connector at the end of a fiber-optic array cable attached to
a fiber-optic array port. The fiber optics emit laser light that can
damage your eyes. |
- Route the end of the fiber-optic array cable that plugs
into the TXP-F13 SIB over the TX Matrix Plus router to the TXP-F13
SIB.
- Remove the dust cover from the fiber-optic array cable
connector and fiber-optic array port. Store the dust covers in a dust-free
resealable plastic bag.
 | Caution:
During maintenance or replacement procedures, small
deposits of oil, dust, and debris can enter the fiber-optic array
ports and the fiber-optic array cable connectors. If a dust cover
is missing from a fiber-optic array port and the fiber-optic array
cable connector, clean it. |
- Clean the port and cable.
- Align the fiber-optic array cable with the corresponding
TXP-F13 SIB port and carefully press it into the port until it stops.
The cable connector and port are keyed to ensure proper mating.
 | Note:
The optics in a fiber-optic array port are spring loaded,
so you must continue to apply force to a fiber-optic array cable or
loopback connector while securing it to a TXP-F13 SIB or TXP-T1600
SIB. |
- Pull the latch for the cable management clamp (Cable Management Clamp) toward you to release it.
- Place the fiber-optic array cable upward into the labeled
slot A, B, C, or D for that cable.
Route the cable upward toward the comb assembly on top of the chassis Cable Management Comb Assembly).
 | Caution:
You must maintain a minimum bend radius of 4 in. (5.1
cm). |
- Route the other end of the fiber-optic array cable to
the TXP-T1600 SIB.
- Arrange the fiber-optic array cable so it does not interfere
with system airflow and maintenance access.
For an illustration of airflow through the T1600 router, see
the T1600 Core Router Hardware Guide
.
- With the fiber-optic array cable extending toward the
left side of the chassis (as you face the rear), align the cable with
the TXP-T1600 SIB port and carefully press it into the port. The cable
connector and port are keyed to ensure proper mating.
- Bring the TXP-F13
SIB online.
- Verify that the fiber-optic array cable is installed correctly
and functioning normally
- If both the LINK and RxPWR LEDs next
to the TXP-F13 SIB and TXP-T1600 SIB ports do not steadily light green,
Use the CLI to determine the status of the TXP-F13 SIB.
- Verify that the TXP-F13 SIBs and TXP-T1600 SIBs are online
by issuing the show chassis sibs command:
