Removing a JCS1200 Management Module or Module Filler

Figure 1 shows how to remove and install a management module.

Figure 1: Removing and Installing a JCS1200 Management Module

Removing and Installing
a JCS1200 Management Module

When you remove a management module, keep in mind the following:

  • These instructions assume that the JCS1200 platform is connected to power.
  • If you are replacing the only management module in the platform and the management module is functioning, save the configuration file before you proceed. For information about saving and restoring a configuration file, see the Junos OS Protected System Domain Configuration Guide.
  • If you have just installed a second management module in the platform, do not remove the first (primary) management module for up to 45 minutes; the second (redundant) management module needs the time to receive initial status information and firmware from the management module.

To remove a management module or module filler (see Figure 1):

  1. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  2. Pull the management module release handle to the open position. The module moves out of the bay approximately 0.25 in. (0.6 cm).
  3. Slide the management module out of the bay.

a JCS1200 Management Module

To install a management module or module filler (see Figure 2):

  1. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  2. Remove the management module filler, if one is installed.
  3. Remove the management module interposer filler tray, if one is installed.
  4. Install the management module interposer, if it is not already installed.
  5. Make sure that the release handle on the management module is in the open position.
  6. Slide the management module into the management module bay until it stops.
  7. Push the management module release handle to the closed position.
  8. Connect any cables to the management module.
  9. If the platform is connected to power, make sure that the OK LED on the management module is lit. If the management module is redundant, wait at least 45 minutes for the modules to copy the configuration data before you make any changes to the management module configuration.
