Packing the JCS1200 Platform for Shipment

To pack the platform for shipment, follow this procedure:

  1. Retrieve the shipping crate and packing materials in which the platform was originally shipped. If you do not have these materials, contact your Juniper Networks representative about approved packaging materials.
  2. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  3. Shut down power to the platform by pressing the power switch for all power supplies to the off (O) position. On both AC and DC power supplies, the switch is located on the power supply faceplate.
  4. Disconnect power from the platform.
  5. Remove the cables that connect to all external devices. See the removal procedure for each component.
  6. Remove all field replaceable units (FRUs) from the platform.
  7. Remove the platform from the rack:
    • If you are using a mechanical lift, place the lift platform under the platform, unscrew and remove the mounting screws from the rack, and move the platform to the shipping crate.
    • If you are not using a mechanical lift and the platform weight is fully supported by a shelf or another platform, unscrew and remove the mounting screws from the rack. Three people can then lift the platform and move it to the shipping crate.
    • If you are not using a mechanical lift and the platform weight is not fully supported by a shelf or another platform, three people should grasp the platform while a fourth person unscrews and removes the mounting screws from the rack. The three lifters can then move the platform to the shipping crate.
  8. Place the platform in the shipping crate or onto the pallet. If on a pallet, bolt the platform to the pallet.
  9. Cover the platform with an ESD bag and place the packing foam on top of and around the platform.
  10. Replace the accessory box on top of the packing foam.
  11. Securely tape the box closed or place the crate cover over the platform.
  12. Write the RMA number on the exterior of the box to ensure proper tracking.
