Removing a TXP-CIP

The TXP-CIPs are located to the right of the TXP-F2S SIB card cage, below the TXP-CBs and Routing Engines.

Each redundant TXP-CIP is hot-removable and hot-insertable. It weighs approximately 5.3 lb (2.4 kg). When the TXP-CIP is removed, the backup TXP-CIP provides redundant connections to the active host subsystem in the TX Matrix Plus router and the active LCC-CBs in the T1600 routers.

Note: If you are replacing a TXP-CIP in an operational TX Matrix Plus router, the TX Matrix Plus router and each T1600 router in the routing matrix must have redundant host subsystems.

To remove a TXP-CIP (see Figure 1):

  1. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  2. Determine whether the TXP-CIPto be replaced is active or a backup. If the green ACTIVE LED on the TXP-CIP faceplateis lit, the TXP-CIP is active.
  3. Bring the TXP-CIP offline, using one of the following methods:
    • Press and hold the ONLINE/OFFLINE button located at the top of the TXP-CIP faceplate until the OK LED is not lit.
    • Issue the following CLI command.
      user@host> request chassis cip offline slot 0
  4. Verify the OK LED and ACTIVE LED is lit on the faceplate of the TXP-CIP that is not being removed.

    Note: The other TXP-CIP must be online and active before you remove the TXP-CIP being replaced.

  5. Label each cable with its corresponding port name—for example, LCC CTRL PLANE 0.
  6. Disconnect all cables connected to the TXP-CIP.
  7. Loosen the captive screws at the top and bottom of the TXP-CIP faceplate.
  8. Grasp the handle on the TXP-CIP faceplate and carefully pull the TXP-CIP straight out of the chassis.

    Caution: Be sure to slide the TXP-CIP straight within the slot to avoid damaging the connector pins on the front of the midplane.

Installing a TXP-CIP

To install a TXP-CIP (see Figure 2):

  1. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  2. Grasp the TXP-CIP handle with one hand and hold the bottom edge of the TXP-CIP with the other hand to support its weight.

    Note: The components on the TXP-CIP are on the left side of the board, unlike the components of a TXP-F13 SIB, which are on the right side. Verify that the components are on the left before inserting the TXP-CIP.

  3. Insert the TXP-CIP into its chassis slot, carefully aligning the top and bottom of the TXP-CIP with the guides in the card cage.
  4. Carefully push the TXP-CIP straight into the chassis until it contacts the midplane.

    Caution: Be sure to slide the TXP-CIP straight within the slot to avoid damaging the connector pins on the front of the midplane.

  5. Tighten the screws at the top and bottom of the TXP-CIP faceplate.
  6. Using the labels to assist you, reattach all cables to the TXP-CIP.
  7. To verify that the TXP-CIP is installed correctly:

    • Verify that the green OK LED on the faceplate of the TXP-CIP is lit.
    • Issue the show chassis environment cip sfc 0 command to verify that the TXP-CIP is Online.
    • Issue the show chassis cip command to verify that the links from the TXP-CIP to the T1600 routers (LCC) are up.
