Removing Components from a JCS1200 Chassis

To remove components from a JCS1200 chassis:

  1. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  2. Power off any Routing Engines in the JCS1200 platform (see Powering Off a JCS1200 Routing Engine).
  3. Disconnect the power from the platform (see Disconnecting Power from the JCS1200 Platform).
  4. Remove the following components from the front of the platform:
    • Switch modules: Pull the handle on each switch module or filler to the open position and remove the module or filler (see Removing a JCS1200 Switch Module or Module Filler).
    • Management modules: Pull the handle on each management module or filler to the open position and remove the module or filler (see Removing a JCS1200 Management Module or Module Filler).
  5. Disengage the following components from the midplane using the procedure indicated:

Note: Make sure each component is pulled out of the JCS1200 platform at least 1 in. (2.54 cm).

    • Routing Engines: Pull the two release handles on each Routing Engine to the open position (see Removing a JCS1200 Routing Engine).
    • Power modules: Pull the handle on each power module or filler to the open position (see Removing a JCS1200 Power Module).
    • Media tray: Pull the handle on each media tray or filler to the open position (see Removing a JCS1200 Media Tray).
  6. Remove the fan shuttle from the platform (see Removing a JCS1200 Fan Shuttle).
  7. Remove the upper and lower power boxes from the rear of the chassis (see Removing a JCS1200 Power Box).
  8. If you are instructed to return the chassis, follow all packaging instructions and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.

Installing Components in a Replacement JCS1200 Chassis

To install components in a replacement JCS1200 chassis:

  1. Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
  2. Install the upper and lower power boxes into the chassis (see Installing a JCS1200 Power Box).
  3. Install the fan shuttle into the chassis (see Installing a JCS1200 Fan Shuttle).
  4. Push the following components fully into the front of the platform to reengage the midplane:
    • Routing Engines: Slide each Routing Engine or filler into the bay; then push the two release handles to the closed position (see Installing a JCS1200 Routing Engine).
    • Media trays: Slide each media tray or filler into the platform; then push the release handle to the closed position (see Installing a JCS1200 Media Tray).
    • Switch modules: Slide each switch module or filler into the platform; then push the release handle to the closed position (see Installing a JCS1200 Switch Module or Module Filler).
    • Management modules: Slide each management module or filler into the platform; then push the release handle to the closed position (see Installing a JCS1200 Management Module or Module Filler).
  5. Slide each power module or filler into the bay; then push the release handle to the closed position (see Installing a JCS1200 Power Module).
  6. Reconnect the power to the platform (see Connecting the JCS1200 AC Platform to AC Power or Connecting the JCS1200 DC Platform to DC Power).
  7. Restart any Routing Engines that were powered off in the platform (see Powering On a JCS1200 Routing Engine).
